Today is Thursday, I think. That's the joy of being retired. Someone pays money into my account (well, I hope they do or else I'll be walking around the world), I don't have to be anywhere at any particular time or do anything I don't want. Thoroughly recommend it. Particularly when you are somewhere really warm, gorgeous blue skies, aquamarine seas, white sand. Right, that's enough of making you all jealous.
Went out kangaroo hunting on Monday night. There is a huge park near here that is surrounded by bush. At night when everyone leaves the park the 'roos come out from the surrounding area and graze on the grass, bit like the deer in England. Anyway we hatched a cunning plan, we would hide and look like trees and then when the 'roos came out we would be able to see them. Trouble was, half of the population around here had the same idea. Anyway we manged to find one (see above) and if you look really closely you may be able to see the joey in her pouch. My granddaughter got up really close and fed her - they love pumpkin seeds! Anyway the rest of the 'trees' moved and the 'roos all went back into the bush but it was fun.
Yesterday I went to Perth. A delightful city. I managed to find a two hour walking tour run by an English guy who came over here forty years ago and never went back! It was a whistle stop walk of the city with a look at places that you might want to go back and see again. They have the bells from St Martin in the Fields, London over here. They were given to WA by London and are housed in a wonderful tower - very modern and surrounded by fountains. I'll up load some photos - forgot my camera yesterday (really getting old) but am going back to explore some more.
Found a restaurant where you didn't have to pay if you didn't want to. They ask you to eat to your heart's content and pay what you heart desires. It was a Thai establishment, vegetarian and good. Being the last of the big spenders I won't tell you my contribution but it was certainly a different experience. Apparently the tourists don't want to appear mean so give more than perhaps they should. Wonder what would happen if you tried that in the UK - probably be broke in a month.
Trains are very reasonably priced here. $8 return (ticket is for up to 5 people) for a forty minute journey on really clean trains - eat your heart out British Rail or whatever we call our system now.
Till next time.
