So Pai is an odd place. I had heard so much great things about it that I was super excited to get here. People described it as a really mellow hippy town with lots of cafe's where you could sit for hours just relaxing. I would just describe it as a small town full of tourists. I'm not saying that I don't like the place but I think I made the grave mistake of having really high expectations.
After arriving last night we picked one of the first guest houses we saw. That was a big mistake, the accomidation was pretty crap and run down. Myself and lisbet had to share our room with some massive black ants and Andy had a tree passing through his bathroom, hmm!! Also we had to pay 50B for Internet which didn't actually work.
Another odd thing about the town is the closing time of bars. The first bar we went to finished at half eleven and every other one at twelve. We finally found a little club that stayed open till one. This is a massive difference from every other town which can keep you going until five in the morning. Dispute the early closing time last night was good fun. On the way home though we did see a guy being beaten up by about six other guys. After yelling at the little hooligans they ran off. We rushed to the guy to help him, at this stage I actually thought he was a girl and was freaking out but when he turned over and revealed he was in fact a very effeminate guy I relaxed a bit. He seemed ok so we left him and got some tasty food before bed. The next morning Andy and Lisbet were feeling effects of the night before so I left them to wallow in their misery while I rented a bike and got a look at the country side. It was so peaceful cycling about on my own and thanks to the bike I got to see a lot. I cycled through a tiny thai village that had a real authentic feel to it. At one stage two thai children ran along beside my bicycle laughing and shouting hello at me, ha! I also had to do a lot of up hill cycling which was so difficult, at one stage i had to walk the bike because cycling up at such an angle felt like a physical impossibility. At this stage my face was on fire and covered in sweet, a thai guy actually laughed at me when he saw me, ass!! Altogether the ride was really enjoyable. Defiantly worth the 50 B (1.25 euro) for the bike. Oh Thailand when you aren't physically abusing me you are so good to me :)
And speaking of physically abusing me, that evening Lisbet and I got a Thai massage. I was a bit put off at first when I realised that I was getting my massage from a man. Those worries however soon evaporated as he dug his tiny Thai hands (and even feet at some stages) into every knot in my stressed out body. The perfect cure after my bike ride. That night we went out with two people that Andy had previously met on his trip. They were really nice and we had good fun but it is four o clock the next day and only now have I been able to stomach food, not a pleasant feeling at all at all!!
