Surfed Monkey Jumps, Lances Left and Bintangs today. Epic time at Bintangs catching drainers off the reef with just Sime, Ant and I out getting wave after wave in oily conditions. Super fun. Big smiles.
Tonight the crew put on an amazing beach BBQ that required venturing precariously by torchlight through the mangroves to a sandy palm fringed beach. The tender hitting the reef on the first trip across.
Beach BBQ was quintessential Indo style - corn on the cob, a blazing fire fueled by diesel and palm fronds, a SUP as table, firecrackers of NYE worthiness (one of which missed Jase by mere centimeters) and throwing the entire BBQ in the sea at the end of the night to cool it down. Classic fun.
Little did we realize the entertainment was only just beginning. War. On returning to the Addiction, we were greeted with a plethora of amo laid out to retaliate against a bunch of grommies who egged our boat while we were gone. Eggs, tomatoes, bags of flour and water and fish sauce bombs were all garnered under Dickinson's command. The until now mild mannered skipper was fired up and hilarity ensued. Tim dressed Rambo style using his bloody shirt as a headband, big Sime's fingers were burnt whilst smoke bombing the enemy with flares, Braddo copped a can of coke in the arm, our two tenders near missing eachother in a decoy attempt and a curious sea snake deciding it timely to visit the Addiction. All of this culminating in the eventual departure of the grommies' boat and our boys reveling in the win.
So now in addition to a few bruises and small reef cuts, an egg to the side of the neck is my latest piece of Mentawais collateral damage. Who would have imagined!
