Arrived in Franz Josef about lunchtime. After something to eat we headed up to look at the Franz Josef Glacier. It was about a 45 min walk across the moraine field to the viewing point - see photos.
We decided to stay in the town of Fox Glacier, ready for our guided walk tomorrow. We heard that there was a 4WD track nearby so thought that we'd try some off-roading again and headed to Gillespie's Beach. The route involved 21 kms of very twisty gravel track - not particularly bumpy but still good fun.
Had planned on two nights here, but not particularly keen on our motel so will probably head further south tomorrow afternoon.
