Ok, I am officially converted and contrite. I love Vang Vieng and I'm having a really good time. The time has flown by and I'm not really sure what I've been doing with it. Well, I know I have been spending most of it either watching movies or hanging out by the river but I know that's not the most productive thing in the world. But it's been really fun and a bit like a holiday within a holiday. I've met tonnes of great people, it feels like I've been here for ages. Oh, I am well and truly recovered now by the way, although I'm celebrating by drinking and not getting enough sleep so it kind of evens out. I also have whiplash and several impressive bruises but these are mainly self-inflicted so I can't complain.
Since I last wrote I have been generally hanging out not doing very much though managing to be too busy to write my blog. On April 1st I went climbing, I remember this because it was April Fools Day and I was going to write a blog saying I'd been arrested or kidnapped or something but I didn't have the heart. The climbing was really good and as a paranoid perfectionist I had no worries about the safety equipment. The guides were sweet and we met some cool people. On the second I went kayaking and caving. That was a really fun day and I had great time. I had a bit of extra help as when we arrived Gen very helpfully told one of the guides, Gui, that I was single and on the lookout for a man. This gave Gui all the encouragement he needed to stick to my side for the rest of the day, help me in and out of tubes and kayaks, chauffeur me round by either dragging my tube or paddling my kayak and even try to hold my hand in the dark. He was really sweet and he made a very good boyfriend for the day. I may have broke his heart as I think I stood him up but his English wasn't too good so I'm not quite sure.
And since then I have spent most mornings sleeping and watching films, most afternoons on the river, and most evenings in the bars. So I have become one of those drunken people floating down the river. Although I still do it with a bit of class, as I've been tipsy rather than hammered and haven't strutted along the main road in a bikini having a drunken argument with my friends as some people do. We'd met a really nice American girl in Phonsavan who was working at Q Bar here and bumped into her again on our second day so we went over there and have since become good friends with everyone who works there/casual employees. Casual employee means we hang out by the river telling people to go to Q Bar and we get a free tuk-tuk ride.
Anyway, I'm not really in the mood to write much today but I thought I should let people know I'm alive. I'll probably be here for a couple more days so I'll write more later. :)
