We arrived here in one piece and in good time, had to get here it is the Edinburgh of the southern hemisphere,Dunedin is celtic for Edinburgh, the street names are all the same and in the same layout more or less, the only difference is it is surrounded by and built on hills, not hills as we know them, hills that have had a good dose of steroids. As we were trying to negotiate our way to the campsite we were up and down like a rollercoaster,at one point I came up over the brow of a hill and couldn't see a thing except sky,the road just plunged down, this wee van has very good brakes!!
We spent two days in Dunedin, one of them we spent with a ranger doing a cliff and beach walk,it was fantastic he was so passionate about the animals and there conservation it made you want to stay and help.We saw a group of Royal Albatross, they just glided over our heads,we went on to the beach and sat beside huge seals, all asleep I might add,the penguins were on their way back out of the ocean, where they had been all day and they walked right past us to their nests, one of them stopped right beside Alison and had a good look at her,we just sat there like statues.Over the cliffs in the rock pools a huge gathering of seal cubs were having great fun,it was a fantastic day.
We had a fall of snow and hail overnight, nothing much but it was a wee bit cold it all added to the dramatic scenery. Before we left Dunedin we took a 2 mile hike to the outskirts of town to SEE the worlds steepist street,I was sure I had been driving up and down them a couple of days before but this one took the edge.
Next we are heading south to Invercargill, Alison's friend Una has an aunt and uncle who live there we promised them a visit.
