Hey hey... Not had an update for a while. After another night in Dharma Lounge in Stone Town on Sunday night, preceeded by shisha and a lovely meal at the Silk Route Restaurant, I headed off to Matemwe by dala dala to start my scuba adventure. It didn't get off to a good start as I felt distinctly intimidated by the locals on the dala dala being the only 'mzungu' on it. It then got a puncture in the middle of nowhere and I began to realise how isolated I was from any sort of help if I got into a sticky situation.
Never mind that though... I had the most wonderful experience doing the scuba diving but not before I got checked by the doctor to make sure I could dive (due to my asthma), however the spirometry tests showed that my lung capacity was actually better than the doctor himself. So scuba was an OK!!!
It was probably one of the most amazing experiences of my life and I'm so so glad that I did it! I'm now a PADI certified Open Water Scuba Diver able to dive to 18m anywhere in the world, with the opportunity to extend my training when I get a chance. I love it, especially as a couple of years ago it would have been the sort of thing that would have frightened me to death!!!
Met some amazing people through diving aswell and others that were staying at the various cheap back-packers places! Definitely an experience worth doing again and again and again...
Back in Stone Town now and heading off to Mbweni to correct my farmer's/t-shirt tan and make my hair more blonde by a combination of lemon juice and sun - works wonders! Then Kendwa and Nungwi are on the cards for the rest of the weekend, and goodness only knows what planned for the rest of the week.
The only bad thing about being contactable by email anywhere in the world is that I've just received a barrage of emails from the uni reminding me that I have an obligation to medicine and that I start my GP placement next Monday. Boo! But all good things MUST come to an end! I'll be seeing you all very very soon...
