Jamie and Marc Conquer the World!
MARGARET RIVER
On Tuesday the 20th of November we hired a car and went to visit my relatives....Eleanor and Don. My Grandad's niece and Husband. They live in a place called Secret Harbour with is South of Perth. We were greeted by two of the most lovely people ever. Eleanor made us feel right at home as she made us Bacon Rolls for lunch.....MMMMMmmm it had been ages since we had tasted a bit of home! You can't beat a Bacon Roll. We spent the day with Eleanor and Don, caught up and spoke a lot about the "Hasties" and how they came to be in Australia etc. Then myself, Marc, Don and Luke went to the beach for a stroll as Eleanor cooked us our tea. Great day had by all. We would like to say a BIG Thanks to Eleanor and Don, you made us feel really welcome and it meant a lot to me meeting you all. Hopefully next time we can stay a bit longer!!
So Wednesday 21st of November we were up early as Jamie, Myself and the Mo trio were heading to Maggie River, (Margaret River) its 1 of Australia's most famous wine regions. So we were up and on the road at 6 headed to Freo for the girls then were on our way to Mags for some wine tasting. It took us about 3 hours to get there, we booked into our accommodation for the night and Johno our wine guide for the day picked us up.
We borded the van picked up a few others, 2 Scots who we had already met in Freo (small world) and headed to the first vine yard and got fired in about the cab- sav some Merlot a wee bit of Shiraz, great grapes and it was very reassuring to hear they are similar to that of Bordeaux, cause we all know they produce some of the finest wines in the world!
After the first stop it was a short drive to the next Winery, where I smashed a bottle, lucky it was empty. At the second winery it was all about making our own "blend", I made a 70 % cabaret and 30% Merlot it was extraordinary on the Palate, Jamie surprisingly went for a complete different blend...She opted for a 29% cabaret and 71% Merlot also exceptional We followed the wine making with a picnic lunch of bread oil cheese biscuits cold meat oh and more wine... after lunch we boarded the bus and headed to the chocolate factory which was a good idea as it kept us from drinking wine for a while.
So the chocolate factory was my idea of heaven.....Yum Yum. Myself and the Mo Trio helped ourselves to so much chocolate that we actually felt a tad sick...Greedy Guts! We decided to have some coffee to perk ourselves up. Following the chocolate factory it was back in the bus and off we went to yet another winery. By this time I don't think many of the group were actually caring where the wine came from or what kind of mix it was....all we wanted was our glasses topped up. Ha Ha typical scots. As our day drew to an end we decided that as a group we would all meet in Maggie River that evening and have a few more jars. So our fellow Scots, the Mo Trio and a couple of Gerry's all got tiddly together at one of the local pubs. Danny Archer also joined us towards the end of the night.....in-case none of you know that's A R C H E R....!!!
Thursday Morning was surprisingly good. None of us had much of a hangover, so off we went into town for some bacon baguettes and some well deserved smoothies.
We had a wander around the few shops in Maggie River then said goodbye to the "Mo Trio" as it was time for us to hit the road back up to Perth.
When we got back to Perth Marc and I went to "Kings Park" for the afternoon and chilled. Once Kate finished work we took her for a slap up meal to thank her and Steve for having us to stay. Thanks again guys! So that was it...Our last night in Perth, our flight to Adelaide left at 9.30am on Friday the 23rd of November.
WA was Amazing, we did and see loads, and so onto the next chapter we suppose...let the fun begin on the East Coast of Australia.....
