Our first stop was in a small village where there was a church, museum and a scary beggar lady saying 'Mami, Papi' over and over again. We saw some mummies that were a bit freaky and fed some Vicuñas that were really sweet. The next stop was on the side of a road. It was the highest point we would go to on the trip and the scenery here was excellent we were surrounded by snow-capped mountains. There was also a small market selling all sorts of Peruvian goods. The third stop was for lunch, a buffet style that was pretty good and even Dad ate something so you know it was clean! There was another market here, surprise, surprise! The fourth stop was probably my favourite; it was an Inca site with small houses and some impressive architecture. The last stop before Cusco was a small church that didn't look very exciting from the outside but the inside was covered with religious pictures and gold leaf.
As we arrived in Cusco we began to get concerned. It was not how any of us imagined it, it seemed industrialised and not a pretty historic city as described in the book, in general it looked a bit gross and we were spending 5 full days here. We got a taxi, courtesy of the hotel and as we drove into the historic centre we could see why Cusco is so popular. We were pleased and relieved that it was so nice and the next hotel was also really nice, another giant bed, chocolates on the pillow and heating-what a treat!
