On Robyn's recommendation we had booked a hostel in the Barrio Brasil area of Santiago. The hostel was really nice, she did well. It had such an amazing breakfast that we didn't need lunch. We hadn't planned on stopping in Santiago until right at the end of our South America journey as we fly out of here. We are running out of time and although there are probably some excellent places to see in middle Chile we have chopped it, in favour of the Lake District and Northern Patagonia. We had also planned on not spending much time in Santiago but we are partial to a nice city and this is one of them. The second day here was a highlight we took the free tour around the city. Unless you are in Singapore on a free scooter trip (yes Barrett!) most free tours you have to tip. We didn't mind at all as the guy was so nice and the tour was brilliant, so good in fact we are trying to plan an extra day here to enjoy all that Santiago has to offer.
