We have arrived in Gili Trawangan after a short mini bus and a little bumpy ferry journey. We turned up on the island having to jump off of the boat in to the water which was just incredible. The clearest bluest sea I have ever seen. The only transport on the island is a horse and carriage. We arrived at our hostel thinking we had got a right bargain with a pool. The pool is right next to the beach but is bright mouldy green horrible water! We will not be getting in that swimming pool! I will try and take a photo but will have to try when the staff aren't looking! We have taken a walk around some of the island and it's so pretty we saw some bright colourful fish by just dipping our feet in. We found a night market 5 minutes away from where we are staying. Lovely fresh cheap food which has the nicest pancakes ever! One of the best nights sleep we have had in ages! We decided against breakfast from the hostel seeing as the pool was green! We just wanted to get out and explore and found a little cafe and got two ice coffees which were delicious. We thought we found a beautiful spot on the beach but as soon as we got in the water it was knocking us off our feet and we had no chance with the strong current. We decided to find somewhere a bit calmer. After walking about 30 minutes we found a nice spot and the sea was a lot calmer. Hit the jackpot as it was the best snorkelling spot either of us have ever seen. So many different types of fish all different colours and sizes. We stayed at the beach all day snorkelling and sunbathing. We went to the food market in the evening and Tom got a selection of barbecue meat and fish I was brave and tried some red snapper! I was naughty and cut out my meal so I could have another pancake Tom didn't realise until after because he was too busy stuffing his face. We shared a peanut butter and strawberry jam pancake. We got up early the next day and booked a snorkelling trip around all three islands. The boat was full but we got to sit right at the front of the boat in the sunshine. We got to our first snorkelling spot and I was crapping myself! Tom jumped straight in and after a deep breathe I was straight behind him! We snorkelled holding hands and saw some of the most amazing fish. Big, small, ugly, fat, thin and even some were pretty scary. We then went to our second spot which was turtle point. This has to be one of the best things either of us have done. As soon as we jumped off the boat we saw a massive turtle. We swam for half an hour looking for more which we found. We then went to our final spot and we saw a massive puffer fish! We went for lunch on Gili Air which is a really pretty island. The snorkel trip was amazing and only cost us £5 each! In the evening we decided to go for a curry which is one of the cheapest restaurants on the island and it's right on the beach. We wasn't expecting much but it was one of the best curries we have both ever had. Two minutes later we both looked at each other in joint discomfort. Something wasn't right and we made a quick exit to the room after hurrying the waiter up for the bill. The toilet was occupied for a while after that meal. Last curry for a while! Today we woke up early had our usual wake up coffee and went to our spot. As the current was pulling to the right we decided to walk up the beach so we could get in and let the current take us back to our stuff. Tom wanted to go further and further up the beach but I was getting hot and wanted to get in the sea and when Tom tripped and farted out loud I decided that was enough haha! We got in and within 10 seconds of putting our head in the water I spotted the biggest turtle just sitting below us chilling. I screamed under the water we both couldn't believe how close it was. Something we will never forget. Spent the rest of the day thinking and talking about the turtle. We both think this is our favourite place so far. Our last day in Gili and we got to swim and follow seven different turtles! We are sad to leave but happy we got the chance to go to such a beautiful island and experience what we did.
