Port Fairy (02.08.2012): Today we travelled 177km from Mount Gambier to Port Fairy making several stops along the way. When we awoke from our campsite we discovered that the play area had a huge bouncy pillow - we couldn't resist a go. Morning exercise over, we headed for our first stop within Mount Gambier: Umpherston Sinkhole - referred to as the 'sunken garden'. The sinkhole features a limestone cave, a waterfall, a very pretty garden and a great BBQ area. We had a little walk around and a go on the swings before hitting the road.

Our first stop outside Mount Gambier was the Princess Margaret Rose Caves just outside Nelson. Just before stopping at the caves we crossed the border from South Australia to Victoria, losing 30 minutes to the time difference. A new state, our third!

Adam went on a tour of the limestone caves whilst I did a nature walk, on the lookout for koalas again - but again only spotting roos. There's still time. I feel I will spot one soon!

At Nelson we petrol'led up and had a quick nosey at the beach before driving on to Cape Bridgewater, checking out the Discovery Bay National Marine Park. We visited two viewing points: one for 'the Blowholes', and one for 'the Petrified Forest'. The dramatic cliff views were spectacular. Cape Bridgewater beach itself is a lovely beach with white side. We had a nice stroll along it. Sadly, it rained but it was still beautiful.

We then stopped by the Seal Colony look out before driving on to Cape Nelson for a quick peek at the lighthouse. Back in the camper, we drove through Portland without stopping as it did nothing to tempt us. Instead, we carried along the Princes Highway to Port Fairy with a stop at 'the Crags' another great sea lookout point. Tomorrow we will hit the Great Ocean Road, supposable one of the most spectacular drives in the world - the views are already pretty special.

We are camped up at Port Fairy and currently trying to insulate ourselves. It was pitch black by 6pm which is really annoying considering I know it is light nights at home and the dark is really cutting down how much we can do in a day. Early start tomorrow!
