Kings Canyon (25.07.2012): Woo. We are on our way the real 'Red Centre'. First stop a 130km retreat to Alice Springs. We awoke 300km from Kings Canyon but the road from the ranges is 4WD only so we have to travel 600km and back track! Boooo hoo. Our little camper has failed us.
We fuelled up at Alice Springs and re-joined our old faithful Stuart Highway turning off at Erlunda and joining the Lasseter Highway taking us onto the Luritja Road - the path to Watarraka National Park. Kings Canyon is located within Watarrka National Park - what a sight to behold!
We arrived at around 2pm which didn't leave us quite enough time for the Kings Canyon Rim Walk so we did the 2km Kings Creek Walk instead, saving the best for the morning. We camped out at Kings Canyon Resort which had a amazing view of the canyon. The site was full of wild grey and red parrots.. very noisy!
