Catching the night bus from Mendoza to Santiago, I remembered to take on board my travel pillow, ear plugs and wine. However, while getting my first good sleep on a bus for a while, I forgot the slight disturbance caused by crossing the Chilean border. Because it was situated at a high altitude, I had to stand in a freezing que for hours, with only a light jumper to keep me warm. Things got worse when I arrived in Santiago early in the morning, after being rudely awakened for the second time that night, I found myself with no Chilean currency and the cash machine not working. Thankfully, a local that I talked to a bit during customs offered to pay for my metro ride and show me directions to my hostel. At around 6, I thought I had arrived at my hostel, which seemed remarkably clean and well kept for being one of the cheapest hostel I could find. It turned out that I had mistaken ´Chilli hostel´ for ´Chill hotel´ and was forced to walk on to my hostel, which was thankfully not too far away and now the sun had risen, I could admire the epic mountains overlooking the city. Once at the correct hostel, I found out that my room would not be ready until 11 and also that the sofas were occupied by others arriving early. The only place open at this hour turned out to be an all night coffee shop filled with a mix of drunk revellers and businessmen, where I spend hours drinking disgusting coffees.
After hibernating the whole day, I was feeling up for going out at night. None of the bars we passed seemed appealing enough and we ended up walking around for hours, realising that we were completely lost and getting flowers thrown at us by gangsters. Overall, it was very nostalgic (apart from the flowers that is)
