We got off the cruise ship and headed straight for our pre-booked motel, the Lafayette, in Fort Lauderdale. Three days of good food, beach and sunset cocktails. When we got there I almost immediately started humming the old "Meat Loaf" tune "Two out of Three ain't Bad" to myself. There was a beach, but restaurants, cocktail bars and stores of any kind were few and far between. Heading south from the Lafayette Motel, it's about a 3 - 5 kilometre walk to the district south of of Sunrise Blvd., where the action begins. To the north of the Lafayette it's about the same distance to an area called Ft. Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, another action area. We were stuck in a kind of suburban wasteland-by-the-sea - a residential area, mostly surrounded by condos. Oh well, every so often we should all be stuck in the arse with the old look-before-you-leap sharpened pin.
