My first SNAKE experience
Third day of work.
The main part of the restaurant is outside and used to be decking. Since it was almost corroded through and a customer almost went crashing through to his death, they decided to scrap the wood and build up in concrete. This is almost finished now, and is looking pretty smart, red polish is needed and also banisters need to be fitted.
After our painting marathon yesterday and after inspection decided to go back into that horridly hot toilet and paint a few bits again since the paint dried so quickly, there were a few patches.
Whilst some if the blacks were polishing the floor we re stacked the old decking pieces, which were big, thick pieces of Oak...
During moving the top few pieces I discovered a nest if mice, which set off alarm bells, since is perfect snake territory. Dark, cool, safe and plenty if easy prey. Planks kept getting heavier as the pile was disappearing. More lizards, mice and geckos, even saw a tailless whip scorpion a very weird looking insect. Eventually a snake popped out, only about as thick as a broomstick handle, but a good 1.5m long. Dark boring grey but bright bright green head. Thinking it was a common bush snake I grabbed it's tail, much to vales horror he screamed and went to find Martane. Soon after he got away. Later that night I got the snake book out, and quite clearly found this snake species.....
The eastern vine snake, found only in Northern Mozambique, dark grey with bright green head. HIGHLY DANGEROUS, causes severe nerve system failure and attacks respiratory system first. The thing that shocked me the most was that there is no known anti venom!!
Guests in tonight, also pitched our tent although were hoping we can stay in luxury for a few more nights...
