The road trip is well under way, and we have already travelled 997 miles in 3 days!!!!

We left Fernie after having breakfast with Rachel, Curtis and Anita (miss you guys!) and headed straight for the border. The driving conditions weren't great it snowed the whole way to the border and it was really slippy, but we got there safely. At the border, it was hassle free, we were the only people there, and the guy who was processing it was really funny, he actually couldn't stop laughing when we said where we were staying in Vegas! We left the border, and miraculously all the snow had disappeared, so it was a nice drive - for a little while. We got up into the mountains and it started snowing again, so it was back to really slow driving. Just after Kallispell we saw a trucker go through a red light, right next to a police car that was parked at the side of the road - but on closer inspection it was actually an old police car with a manneqin inside!!! The policeman must've been off fishing or something... We only took one wrong turn the whole drive, so decided that buying a map would be a good idea! Driving through America is very different from Canada, there are a lot of casino's and churches, we even saw someone's whole rear windscreen covered with a sticker that said 'real men love jesus'. In the Indian reserve areas they always have the indian meaning for town names like Arlee means 'where they distribute things' - I guess they have a dhl depot there or something!

We stopped for a burger at a small town called Drummond, it had so much coca cola memorabilia, it was awesome. I had a 'hot lava burger' which is a burger filled with cheese and jalapeno's, it was delicious! Jack said it was probably the best burger he's ever had in his life, and he's had a lot of burgers! We spent the night in Deer Lodge, a tiny little run down town we discovered the next day! We were so tired we stayed in the first hotel we saw, had a couple of beers and played pool then went to bed. We went through the town the next day, there really is a whole lot of nothing there, but it had some really cool old buildings and the old Montana prison.

Our drive took us out of Montana and through Idaho, we stopped at a tiny little place which had a population of about 100 people for a toilet break, but it had a really cool shop/post office. The drive was pretty uneventful, though the weather was much better. We did see an eagle eating road kill though! We stopped in a town called Roberts for lunch, I had grilled cheese, Jack had a Philly Steak Sandwich (which i finished off, it was so tasty!). We were talking to the waitress and she was asking us 'why on earth are you here in Idaho?!' i guess they don't see a lot of out of towners! Although, when we joined the I-15 there were more Albertan plates than USA plates!

As we got nearer to Salt Lake City, Utah it got really foggy, and it was pretty difficult to see. We had directions to our friends Josh and Rachel's, and we had no problem getting there which was good. When we arrived, we went straigh back out so that Jack could go to the world's first KFC, which is actually in Salt Lake City! There was a lot of cool stuff in there, lots of history and we all got a little bit of chicken to say we have eaten there! Jack of course got his picture taken with the colonel and even got a souvenier t-shirt to remind him of the experience! We decided to go and get some real food so Josh and Rachel took us to a micro brewery which also did food. The next day we headed back downtown to see Temple Square, which is the Mormon capital of the world. It was pretty impressive, and interesting, and we got to go inside some buildings. It was a bit strange for us, because they are so dedicated to their religion, and 'sisters' kept coming up and asking us if we were enjoying it, and if we were of faith, so we tried to avoid them a little bit...!

We headed off pretty late, about 2pm to drive half way to Vegas. The trip started off well, but the last 2 hours was a complete blizzard and the roads were bad, at one point we pulled over because we thought we had a flat tyre. It turned out it was a particularly bad section of road, but we couldn't see the road and it felt like a flat, luckily it wasn't! We made it to Cedar City which is now only a couple of hundred miles to Las Vegas. We just went out for dinner then went back to the motel to get a good rest ready for VEGAS! So we're just about to start driving again, the time goes back one hour so we're not in a rush, and we should be in Vegas this afternoon, woohoooo!

Will update on our Vegas experience soon, and i'll try and get some pics on of the trip so far. So far so good!!
