We both enjoyed Montevideo, very nice, clean city. Its really strange though because everything closes at 7pm! So there isnt much to do in the evening unless you go hunting for it. We were initially going to stay for 3 nights but decided just to stay two. Once you have wandered around the city there is not much else. We did go to the mercado which had an amazing grill, Jack got a steak and I got Salmon, it was good but expensive! The buildings and plazas are very beautiful there.
So after the 2 days we decided to go to Punta Del Este as we knew some people we met in Brazil that were going to be there. It really wasnt very great, it is an international beach resort for rich people, everything was expensive and it was really windy! We went out one night, it was good, met lots of people from Chile and had lots of drinks. The next day we lounged by our pool in the hostel which was nice. The first night we had a good double room, then we had to move because the hostel was full and we had a bed in the boiler room!! At least it was cheaper!
We took the bus the next day to Punta Del Diablo, which is more like our scene. Very small, nice little cafes and restaurants and a beautiful beach. The first night we stayed in a hostel we had recommended to us, but moved as it was really quiet with no one there. Although it was a beautiful building, it had a thatched roof and lots of character. We moved to another hostel which is better and cheaper, we have met lots of people from all over the world here, Kiwi, Aussie, Italians etc! Today a lot of us went to the beach and hired a surf board, although it wasnt the best day for surfing i managed to get a couple of waves in!
We have one more night here, then getting the bus back to Montevideo and then on to Colonia De Sacramento, where we will stay one night and then get the ferry to Buenos Aires - sooo looking forward to a nice juicy steak and some red wine!
