We left Vegas early on the Thursday morning and actually made it to San Francisco in one day! It took about 11 hours, but we made it to our friends at about 8.30pm. We were pretty knackered so we went out for a quick dinner and got an early night. The next day we decided to sort out the car first and contacted a company who would come and collect it and give us money for it! So the pick up came, and it was really sad saying good bye, it has been a great little car! Although by the sounds of things it was on its last legs, I think we just made it! Then we headed into town and went to Chinatown for lunch which was delicious, and then we walked through little italy and northbeach. We went out for mexican food with Dave and Ali, it was delicious!
On Saturday we went to Haight and Ashbury, which has lots of really cool shops, and we spent the afternoon there. Ali made ribs for dinner that night, and we stayed in and watched a movie. The next day we went to the Golden Gate bridge. It was a little misty, but when you got closer you could see it perfectly, and it didn`t disapoint. We walked over it a little bit, had a look at the fort and got some great pictures of it. We got to see the beach that day too, it had been a while!
We had booked a trip to Alcatraz and went there on Monday morning. It was really foggy, but as we got to Alcatraz it was clear, although you couldn`t see the city from Alcatraz even though it was only a 10 minute boat ride. Alcatraz was amazing, we did the tour with the commentary, which makes it so much better. It was really busy though, we didn`t realise that it was a public holiday for the day we booked it. There were stories about all the people who had been there, including Al Capone.
We both had a great time in San Francisco, thanks to Dave and Ali for showing us around and for letting us stay in their house!
We left San Francisco on Tuesday morning to fly to Rio, Dave took us to the airport where we flew to Dallas Fort Worth, which took 3 hours. We then waited 2 hours and then got on a plane for 10 hours! It was probably the worst flight I`ve ever had, the plane was about 100 years old, the entertainment system was broken (not that we had one to ourselves, they showed a movie on the tv) but no one could hear the movie through their earphones. Then because it was a night flight, they switched off all the lights after dinner, but nobody`s reading lights were working! So it was 9 hours of darkness, particularly for me who can`t sleep on a plane! Jack played Zelda on the DS for 6 hours... And there was lots of turbulence. Anyway! We are here now, and it is so hot, it was 36 degrees yesterday and so humid! We met one of our friends Philippe yesterday, and went to the beach. We went for a drink last night but were so tired from the journey we didn`t last very long! Going to hit the beach again today, need to get a suntan to blend in with the locals! Think we`re going to stay an extra day in Rio because there is a carnival samba practice on Sunday which we are keen to check out. Not too sure of our next plan, maybe to Philippe`s home town then head south.
