I shouldn't really pick 'shopping' as the activity category for Nelson but after Blenheim, it was exciting to see shops. And I figure, I may be doing regular expeditions to Nelson for its shopping potential.
But first, I was a complete tourist and had to trek up the steep hill to the 'Centre of New Zealand'. The monument at the top was a little disappointing but the view was lovely.
I spent quite a bit of time at the Saturday markets and bought up a week's worth of fruit and vegetables. I could have spent quite a bit on the art, jewellry, furniture and yummy things on offer but again, I see more markets in my future so no need to break the bank immediately.
Oe negative - I found my way to a little carpark on the 'beach' (actually the beach was also a bit disappointing) and discovered where all the dickheads in NZ hang out. Seriously, it was like a convention. And more scary was most of their dickhead behaviour was demonstrated behind the wheel of a car.
I had to pick up some second hand furniture so did a bit of a tour of the suburbs and enjoyed the relaxed 'feel' of the place. Lots of outdoor furniture which, to me, indicates a town of people who enjoy their lifestyle. A lot about Nelson gave me that impression.
Thumbs up to Nelson. I will be visiting again soon, I'm sure.
