So we have arrived safe and sound in the heart of Thailand!
Got here after a brief stop in Malaysia, a very interesting day which involved meeting one of the South African Princes (apparently), drinking beer and trying African food. Very Malaysian. We then flew into Phuket, and picked up a lone traveller - another Tom - who we shared a taxi with to find a hotel.
The two days we spent in Phuket (in Patong) were good but I wasn't a huge fan really. Mainly older people, lots of Western Men with small Thai Ladies (I think)...we didn't even bother going out on a night out! The first day we did head to a Temple, which was interesting. We heard about a fourtune teller, as one of the top things to do in Phuket...turns out all it was was some sticks you shake and the first one that falls out has a number...you then compare that number to some on pieces of paper that gives you your fourtune. In Thai. Utterly pointless. We then went to the beach and stayed there for a while, before climbing over rocks to catch the sunset.
Ok i'm going to skip those days because they were boring.
NOW HOWEVER, i'm on the Phi Phi (Peepee) Islands and having a bloody brilliant time. As soon as we arrived at our hotel and waiting for our room, a group of Marines invited us on their boat trip as three of their friends had backed out...free of charge! We were so lucky because of our lack of funds, we wouldn't have been able to do this. So within an hour of arriving on PhiPhi, we were on a boat just like the ones in the photo above, which if anyone moves you feel like you're going to capsize. We went to Monkey Beach, and one of the guys got bitten by one and had to have rabies jabs...BAD TIMES! Then they all went cliff diving but I didn't (NOT BECAUSE I'M A p**** but because last time i did in Oz I really hurt my ears! Anyway so that was fun to watch...but then we drove around to a secluded area for a swim...soso beautiful. And was quiet before all the other boats joined us. Went for a quick snorkell and then Maya Beach was next...the place where 'The Beach' was filmed and we spent an hour there playing volleyball in the sea (I was completely useless) and having a look around before driving back to the Island and watching the sunset.
That night we headed to the Reggae Bar and met the guys from the boat, had a few drinks and watched a lot of Thai Boxing. They get the customers in the ring for a fight too which is very entertaining (Girls you do NOT look good). Next we all went to the Tiger Bar then back to the hotel rooms for continued drinking.
We didn't get up till the afternoon the next day, and walked around for our first bit of retail therapy in god knows how many months (SORRY DADDY) and all came away with one (or two) new dresses and a spot of jewellery. Shopping much better here than Bali! Anyway, we then went to get ready, had dinner and met the guys in the Reggae Bar again that night. This time we were sat right in front of the ring...good view untill a fat, sweaty man comes lunging towards you looking like they're going to fall on your table! Not nice. By this time we were all a bit 'happy' and went to the beach for a boogie! Unfortunately, Fizz was a bit too drunk so after we dropped her off home we went back out for MORE drinks. Everything shuts (well the music) at 1am here, since there was a shooting last year or something. We all sat on a table by the beach and drank till sunrise...i didn't know we had it in us! Pretty lucky we did though because we were locked out of our hotel room so had to crash in the boys room (Thanks guys!) for about an HOUR and then woke up and left! So basically, no sleep. Bad times.
Felt rough all the next day, what i thought was a hangover. Turns out i've got some kind of bug...great! So today just been chilling, sleeping, not eating a thing and can't go out tonight...hense writing this today. Waste of a day so bit annoying but never mind.
Tomorrow I am celebrating the 3rd New Year of this year. Thai New Year, which lasts about 3 days and starts with a massive waterfight! So will be stocking up on the water pistols tomorrow and diving right into the action...gonna be fun! We're then heading up north (to Bangkok unfortunately)...bad timing. Fizz has free accommodation here so we're stopping there for a night or two to leave our big bags whilst we travel through Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and back into Thailand before i fly home...In just over a month! Everythings going far too quickly...
Update when i'm safe in Bangkok! xx
