Sorry its taken me so long to write but here goes the last 10 days!
So after we settled down in Brisbane we had a walk round the city which was nice but the weather wasnt great! and the following day we ventured to the Lone Pine Koala sanctuary which was lovely! We got to cuddle koalas feed kangaroos and come a little too close to snakes for my liking (pictures to follow).
After Brisbane we went to Noosa, a surfing town further north. Noosa was good although the weather was not, there was a surf competition on so we watched some of that and wondered around hiding from the occasional rain showers! The hostel we stayed in was good although we got caught out by the inevitable bed bugs which really sucked as they stay in your clothes so we had to wash and sort them all out and move rooms!
There wasnt much to do in Noosa, so we tried our hand at surfing (we got beat by the waves massively) and walked around the National Park, and ate a lot of ice cream!
From Noosa we went on to Rainbow Beach where we were doing our fraser island tour from! we had a long speech about not feeding dingos and saftey on the island etc and were sent away for an early night. The following morning we got up at 6.30 am, packed, ate our free breakfast and went to the cars where we had more saftey talks (and were pretty much scared to bits about the amount of accidents that have happend because of vehicles rolling over on the beach).
After all the talks we packed up our trucks met the people we were travelling with and were sent on our way to the barge which took us over to Fraser.
Fraser island is the worlds biggest sand island, and sand definately became the enemy! Upon arrival we took an inland track (very bumpy) to the beach and ventured to Lake Mckenzie, which was beautfiul, clear waters and white sand! We then moved further up the island and set up camp and chased away dingos which were everywhere! We all pitched our tents and cooked dinner together, followed by a bag of goon and some goold old tunes on the guitar and some drinking games!
The next morning we woke up pretty early (turns out camping on sand is not comfertable at all) and cooked some breaky. We then drove to anorhter lake which is being engulfed by sand blows which was also pretty although a fair walk away. We quickly ate some lunch and went to indian head, a cliff edge which allows you to look over the island, which was truly beautiful, although we had high expectations of seeing some sharks, we obviously didnt bring our attitude for graditude as the ozzies say! We then travelled south again and set up camp, had dinner and were all pretty exhausted so called it a night pretty early!
The following morning we packed up, as we couldnt drive on the beach till 12.30 because of the tide we walked to the ship wreck which was beauitful to see and played some volleyball until it was safe to drive, made our way to a creek and then back to the barge to go back to the hostel!
I have to say fraser island was the most fun i have had in oz, we had a great group of people, some swedish boys (who got fed up of our ikea jokes) an english couple, an american girl and some norweigen girls, all in all we definately had the best group and the most fun!
We are now back in rainbow beach, very tired and still finding sand..everwyehre!! We are off to Childers today to visit a friend and then Airlie beach for a couple of nights!
There are two cyclones coming our way so the weather is rubbish and we are all a little anxious, but im sure we will survive!
Pictures to follow soon! xx
