Uh, its been a long day once again. The mosquitos kept me awake for the most of the time, it was really annoying! Im gonna get prepared so much better tonight. I also got a warm blanket so that i wont freeze.. the nights tend to be somewhat cold over here.
We woke up pretty early and grabbed some breakfast from our hostel. Just normal toast and some coffee. Then we headed off to the city center to wonder around. We took the subway, which was nice, not at all dangerous or complicated. Of course people stared at us.. two blondes amongst the oh-so-dark-mexicanos. We went to Zocalo, there was this huge plaza. I dunno, looked fancy but that was it. There`s some kind of party or festival coming here `cos there were loads of people putting up glittery mexican flags, made of tinfoil or something. Also this huge jinglebell was hanging on top of a crossing.
We tried to look for a shoestore to buy flipflops but all we found was high heels and too many shops selling fabrics. We grabbed some food from a street kitchen, bisket (i think) and it was goood. Only 7 pesos, so thats like.. 20-40c, not that bad. We kept on walking around and saw many cool places, i think it was already some kind of ghetto when this guy came up to us when we were looking at the map, he said: i suppose you`re a little lost, this is not a common turist area. We told him that we were looking for the closest subway station and he came us some directions. It was funny though `cos then we were walking on th local red lamps street. There were so many women dressed up in small and tight clothes, just hanging around, waiting for someone to come up to them and ask "cuanto cuesta?" i wonder how much.. 7 pesos?
We got back to our hostel and were just hanging aroun, eating some bread that we bought from the supermarket. We also came across a finnish girl, Kaisa, who`d been travelling for two months. She said i looked familiar but unfortunately we didnt find any connection between us in Finland. She gave some good advice and tips for Guatemala, as she`d been there before Mexico.
Then we took a fw beers with calio (i think??) a guy from texas, we call him Keijo. Much easier! He gave tips about Mexico and Guatemala, mostly about what to be aware of. Then we went out to walk with him around colonia Roma and Condesa, thats our neighbourhood. Keijo tried to find a bureau where they sell bus tickets, but we didnt find it. It was on the map but.. I have to say i wasnt suprised. We decided to get something to eat and drink. On the way we popped into a local church, it was huge and beautiful! Later on i`ll put pictures if its possible.. (wasnt with this computer). I got a pizza and i actually added some chili on it! can you belive it? I `ve never liked spicy food.. Silja and I had sangria margaritas and Keijo took some local beer. It was great, just hanging around, doing practically nothing. I enjoyed it after two months of hell (work).
I think we were supposed to go out tonight with Silja but i guess not as we just woke up after a few hours sleep. I think the jet lag is still hanging on tight. Actually Silja is still sleeping. I think I should go too.. Tomorrow were heading on to Oaxaca. Its a 6 hour drive there.. ugh!
Kisses and hugs from the hot and smelly mexico,
Liisa & Silja
