After the unfortunate event of yesterday we both woke up feeling grotty but much better than before. My general aches had had thankfully subsided but the bloated mess was still annoying. We decided that we would have to stay one more night and catch the day bus to Inle Lake tomorrow. Quite early on we heard some bell ringing getting gradually louder. One of the chaps working gestured to me to bring a camera so I grabbed it quickly and followed him. The sounds were for a procession of young monks being offered food by the local women. I got some nice photos which Laura loved mostly due to the orange, hazy, early morning light. Afterwards we both thought breakfast was a good idea and consumed the usual fruit and bread. We used our sickness as an excuse to sort out our photos and blogs as the TV was annoying us... it was linked to the main satellite box like at home when you can only watch what the person downstairs is watching. So you'd get into something then it would suddenly change, normally to a random Asian movie with questionable acting.
Towards lunchtime, Laura was feeling a little better and getting peckish... the only thing we both fancied was western food, especially pizza again. To spread the wealth, we decided to try another pizza place and found one just down the road. I ordered vegetarian and Laura one with bacon and pineapple randomly?! The pizzas were a good size but had the base which you get with supermarket frozen pizzas, really crunchy. Not quite the Italian stone baked feel from last night! It shows how my stomach has shrunk because I would normally pack away two of them before this trip, now after just that one I was stuffed! May be a little to do with the illness but who knows.
The afternoon involved Laura blogging and myself watching the replays of champions league football... With intermittent naps. The two girls we met yesterday had not returned so must be going for a long day on the bicycles. The heat of the day passed us by and thankfully the air conditioning worked throughout the afternoon with no power cuts. I had the bus booked for tomorrow and started packing up the bags. Later in the evening Laura was feeling peckish and we had browsed trip advisor to look for a well reviewed restaurant. One that came up was the comically named 'Weatherspoons in Bagan', which we had spotted a couple of days ago. Their burger was meant to be legendary and as lent was over I had to go for it.
We arrived and the joint was fairly packed already but luckily there was one table free. The owner informed us he had lived in Bristol for a few years to study and loved the British Wetherspoons chain so decided to put his own little slant on it. I went for the burger eventually whilst Laura tried the Massaman curry. The burger was OK, although little dry for my tastes, yes I have turned into a food snob. Also the burger had no cheese but I couldn't face telling the owner about it. Another issue was Laura ordered the vegetarian option of her curry but got chicken.... The worst thing to give her when she is feeling fragile. The owner seemed unbothered and only after Laura pressed he agreed he would give her a slight discount. We thought this was a bit unfair given she hadn't ordered it and didn't have the heart to get them to remake it. Really he should have honoured the ordered vegetarian price, this was a little frustrating... But neither of us could be bothered to push it.
After our hit and miss meal we both headed back to the guesthouse for a hopeful good night's sleep as a long bus ride awaited tomorrow.
