Our two night stay in Arugam Bay was very relaxing. Easy to see why Anna and Boyd love it so much. It could easily be a barefoot long holiday. The town itself is pretty small. Main Street dotted with cafes restaurants and bars and surf shops. A few other shops selling thrown together beachwear and that is about it, a couple of more sophisticated restaurants selling coffee and smoothie bowls etc otherwise it is pretty basic. Power still regularly goes out I. The evenings so dinner can be candle lit at any point. We had dinner At Danny’s the first night. The most delicious Sri Lankan curries all served up in a tiny hit down a long drive.
Mike, Isabella and Arthur has a surf lesson at Baby Point which was a perfect sized wave for them. There were quite a few others learning to surf there too and it was also a great spot for a swim. The waves in a lot of the rest of the bay pretty much break onto a steep beach. Not many people swimming in the water everywhere else.
The town has a lovely vibe. Very relaxed and we loved that the people were so friendly. It is clear they are doing it really hard since the Easter bombings bet they are never pushy or overly forceful. Worst part is that the places highly rated on trip advisor do better at times like this and the not so good ones rather than absorbing the overflow just miss out. A couple of wonderful sport to sit and have a smoothie and chill out. Spice trail and hideaway. Beachfront is all little cabanas pretty much.
