Phi phi is definitely one of the main party islands of Thailand. Hundreds of young backpackers dancing on the sand all night and lazing in the sun during the day. Tonsai village has been taken over by tourists! For this reason, most things are a little more expensive, the accommodation, the food, even 7/11 ups it's prices! We arrived in a rainstorm, and with a half remembered idea of the village layout we set off to find a guesthouse. After about 5 mins of walking in torrential downpour and flooded streets we stumbled across a cheaper looking place, having already passed more expensive options. Banthai guesthouse. I took off my flip flops and walked in, requesting the price of a room. A fan double with bathroom was 400B, pretty good for phi phi. Seeing as both my bag and I were drenched, I decided to take it. Mrs Lee, the lady who worked there was so friendly and helpful with a great sense of humour. She had a few rules, no shoes indoors, wipe sand off your feet before coming in, don't make too much noise at night, all of which were pretty reasonable! Of course the main reason people come to phi phi is to party. There are 2 main 'clubs' on the beach, slinky and 4play, both owned by the same guy. Both have fire shows and various dangerous activities for you to participate in, although the fire jumping and limbo seem to have been replaced recently due to 'too many accidents!' 4play now offers free shots as it's draw, we had far too many of these as we were talking to the promo guy! needless to say I woke up with a memory blank and feeling like my head was banging around inside a cement mixer. There's so many food options on phi phi you are spoilt for choice. My favourites are the BBQ meat stall and the small Thai food only cafe next to it on the road to the beach. Phi phi has got to be one of my favourite places in Thailand. The beach is nice but not spectacular (take a long tail boat to long beach) but this is made up for by the nightlife. However when the endless drinking and obnoxious tourists get too much for you, it's time to head somewhere quieter!
