Today is motor bike tour day of Hue and surrounding villages
V went on a bike A and J piked out and took the air conditioned car option.
The bike people saw more as they were able to go off the beaten track but still a great day
We made stops at a small village with a traditional market, a Royal tomb complex where the Emperor was buried 21 metres underground to confuse the French invaders who broke in a number of times to try and find the tomb to get the riches buried with him - it succeeded cos they didn't find it cos emperors are usually buried 7 metres down by tradition, a Buddhist pagoda for a very good vegetarian lunch, a colosseum where the Emperor held tiger v elephant battles - the tigers were declawed and de toothed just before the fight to ensure the emperors elephant always won to show the people how powerful he was, a dragon boat ride on the Perfumed River to a monastery which had on show the car the monk drove to Saigon got out of and set himself alight in the middle of the street in protest and then back to the hotel
A unique and interesting day
To cap off the day our local guide invited us to his house for a traditional Vietnamese family dinner cooked by his wife. A special experience and very entrepreneurial of him as he is trying to raise extra funds to send his son to Japan for study
A very full, informative and quite unique day
