Yes we did make it (Josh included) for the 3am departure to Hellfire Pass
Walked down into the pass all lit with bamboo kero lanterns and along the pass to the clearing where the dawn service is held at 5.30am
Magical and serene setting surrounded by bamboo tropical forest
The early start got us excellent seats so the 2 hour wait worth it
Service a very moving and special occasion with maybe 1500 people
2 original pow's from the pass were present (ages 92 and 97)
Back to the resort for breakfast and check out and then to Kanchanaburi War Cemetry for the 10am service
Bigger and a bit longer and more formal but an amazing experience to hear the 2 pow's speak and also before the service they were available for photos and to talk to which we did
All in all one of the best days of all our travels - so fortunate to experience it
Lunch of Thai buffet on a floating restaurant looking out at the Bridge over the River Kwai then back to our Bangkok apartment with a good doze during the 2.5 hour drive
Sleep, swim, dinner, second wind.......not sure what but whatever it will bring to a close 2 of the best days in all our travels
