Depart at 8.30 by minibus for days drive to Chiang Khong on the Mekong River border with Laos
Stopped on the way at the White Temple which is an amazing complex of building built over the last 20 years by a local artist and to be added to and completed by 2070!
Bit like the Gaudi stuff in Barcelona and Sagrida Familia.
Still treated very respectfully by Thai people because it was built for a king but all in all a bit kitsch I reckon
After a local lunch continued on to Chiang Khong for the night
Great little guest house on the Mekong with a/c, wifi and king size bed
Walked along the street lined with market stalls of every description and tried some Durian which smells terrible but actually tastes quite nice
Few drinks and dinner overlooking the Mekong
Josh bought a bottle of Jacobs Creek Chardonnay for Virginia - about the only wine you can find over here and A$20 a bottle at the 711
Tomorrow into Laos and our boat trip along the Mekong
Photo is the toilet block at the White Temple!
