Off at 7.30am for the 7 hour private minibus drive to Siem Reap
Road is being redeveloped but not finished for another 12 months so very rough, dusty and slow trip
Hard to know how Cambodia will ever redevelop its major infrastructure because according to our guide there is very little foreign long term investment in the country because it is corrupt at the highest levels - all foreign investment $ has to pass through the King who pockets 20% on average so foreign companies won't invest $
On the way we stopped at place where they sell tarantulas (live and deep fried) and a few people on the bus crunched into the legs and the body
Lunch at a silk farm NGO - a great cause placing young woman at risk in a safe and secure work environment
Thank god the road is now smoother and we even reached 70kph at one stage. Interesting cricket insect catching plastic contraption on the roadside - the Cambodians eat them fried - photo is Josh with a mouthful of Fried Tarantula
Thoroughly sick of the trip in a hot bus by the time we arrive in Siem Reap at 4.30pm - blue bus to the scrap heap is the group consensus
Hotel ok but the aircon can't cool the room down so we go from one hot box to another but at least there is a pool
In a tuk tuk for dinner at a karaoke restaurant for dinner and some great Cambodian food - Alan right into Amok flavours which is traditional Cambodian and sort of a cross between Thai and Indian so looking forward to trying it at home
The olds left before the karaoke started of course and the you guns stayed on
Tomorrow a day at Angkor Wat
