We made it out of Bimin! We left early in the morning. It started off a beautiful day. But we were soon sailing through a fog bank. We figured out how to sail by radar and avoid all of the other boats real fast! It totally went calm, so we just motoring along - running on our autopilot. Pam loved it - driving by remote control!
Its strange just to go cruising along and avoid all the green dots on the radar. The banks remained totally calm the whole way to the Northwest Channel. The banks are just 10 - 20 feet deep. When you get to the Northwest Channel, you're back in the real ocean - 10,000 feet deep.
After we passed the Northwest Channel, the wind started getting a lot stronger and was just off our nose. It was blowing 18 knots, we had to motor cause we were sailing so close to the wind, but the sails were pulling a little. The waves kept getting bigger and bigger all night long.
Its kind of bizzare to just let Zephia sail herself on autopilot. Its like riding on a wagon with horses pulling you up and down over moguls - through the dark. It got so rough towards the end that I was worried the engine might fly off the motor mounts!
But we made to Nassau a little before dawn, so we slowed down so we could see the entrance. We met some of our friends and anchored for just an hour. Then moved to the Nassau Yacht Haven.
Pam and I love Nassua. We've been taking the buses all over. We get as far away from the tourists as possible!
Hope everyone is well. We'll stay here a few more days and then start working our way farther down.
