So we booked a taxi from our hotel to clark airport in angeles. They were filming something as there were actresses dress as flight attendents. We checked into our air asia flight and passed through security. Our flight was first to kuala lumpar where we waited for our connection to bangkok. We were both sad to leave philippines as its been so good to us. Our flight left slightly late and we arrived in kuala lumpar where we had visions of yummy food that we could consume . The reality was far from this as first we got blasted with arctic wind from the air con and then there were only a few stalls selling food. We opted for bland beef noodle soup, we then had a 3 hour wait for our plane to bangkok with air asia. So we arrived at dong meing bangkok and got through immigration without any hassles and collected our backpacks. We then got a shuttle bus from the exit to mo chit bts. We arrived at our destination surasak bts and with no directions tried to find our hotel. We first got off at the wrong exit and trapsed up and down roads getting various directions that all led to nowhere. We finally spoke to a policeman who pointed us in the right direction, over a footbridge which we were asked to run acrosswhich we still don't understand the logic behind this. We were now getting desperate as we'd been wandering for over half an hour with 15kg backpacks. We then spoke to a lovely lady who hailed a tuk tuk down and asked him if he would charge us local fare, unfortunately as we are foreigners this wasn't an option so we decided to keep walking. We did eventually find our hotel and we were greeted with a cold drink, sheerbliss! !! Our room was amazing with massive bed, flatscreen tv, massive rain shower and air conditioning and all for only £15 per night. We decided to have a chang beer to celebrate arriving!!!! The next day we went to the MBK Centre to find Mr Meings which was a restaurant we had fallen in love with on our previous visit to Bangkok. Like excited kid's we entered the centre and picked up a map and looked at all the restaurant's but couldn't see it, where had he gone too. We then asked at the information point and were told it had closed. We were 2 sad kid's now and had to seek an alternative input and we found it. We ordered a bowl of noodle soup and gyozas which were yummy.we then walked around and looked at more shops, before heading back to our hotel. I must we ended up at the same place nearly everyday whilst we stayed in Bangkok. Next day we decided to go to church which was in a hotel located by the MBK Centre. We arrived and asked at reception where the church was, unfortunately it wasn't located in the hotel and nobody knew of it's location. We decided to grab some food and found an even yummier food place. Again we walked around looking at various high end shops that probably would've swallowed our monthly budget in one hit. We did go to a gormet supermarket and sampled lots of food. I bought a salad bowl and ellie bought some bread and cheese. We then headed back and I ate my smelly salad and elliel ate her stodge. The next day we went to the Myanmar embassy to get our visas and what a farce it would be. The embassy opened at 9am so we got there about 8.30am however there was a queue from the front door down one side of the building, I would say at least 200 people. Well we had to get passport photos, get copies of our passports and complete application forms. By the time this all done it was about 10am and the queue was even longer. We rejoined the queue and waited and waited and waited finally getting through the doors with minutes to spare before they closed. We paid for our visa and waited to hand in our application form. We found out that embassy was closed the week before and that's why it was like being in a overcrowded termite mound. We decided to go back to our hotel and have a swim on the roof top pool, sheer bliss as it's so humid!!!! Next day we went to see some sights so we got the river ferry to the grand palace. When we arrived we were hit with a scam that could catch people unaware. He told us the palace was closed so why don't we got to other sights until it reopens after 4pm and by magic a chauffeur driven tuk tuk arrived saying he'll do the tour for only 30 Bhatt. This scam works by taking you away from sights and to gem shops for the hard sell. We duly declined the offer and went on our way to very open not closed palace.as with any religious place you need to cover up so we rented some clothes and went to purchase our tickets but were shocked when we found our the would've been $18 each. We decided against and whilst we were leavinga fleet of dignitaries drove in with police escorts. We walked back to the ferry and went to Ko San Road just to see how it had changed in 7 years and it seemed a lot quieter but still had a scanky side with men bearing dreadlocks and looking rather unwashed. I bought a vest which turned out to be too tight so this was donated to ellie to with her £50 H&M purchase which bless both of us as we hadn't realised the trud conversion cost. We then headed back to the hotel down the river which was very romantic as we passed temples and restaurants along the way. Today was the day we collected our Myanmar visa but not till the afternoon so we grabbed some noodle soup around the corner from our hotel which was yummy. We then had a swim in our rooftop pool before walking the short distance to the embassy. This time there was no manic queuing in the sweltering heat just straight in and a short wait to collect. Once we got the visas we were both elated and almost jumped for joy as we were visiting a country that had just recently opened to tourism and we were going at a time where the boom was just starting but hadn't really exploded. We hate the really touristic places where hundreds of backpackers converge or coaches full of tourists fill a town. Unfortunately most of S E Asia has become like this. We booked our flights to Yangon and also the first night in Yangon and Inle Lake which worked out to be $25 well above our budget but as we discovered Myanmar is a really expensive country for accommodation and paying government fees. We then had to get crisp, clean US dollars as this was the only money that is accepted for exchange. Also there are no ATMS in Myanmar which we later discovered was far from the truth. We first went to the Siam Centre to try and withdraw some baht which was a nightmare as we went from one bank to another and finally we got accepted at the Bangkok bank where we made a cash advance on our debit card. We then got dollars from a exchange booth but only $100 notes. We read everywhere that you should carry smaller notes but the exchange place only had larger. We had our Air Asia flight from Dong Meing airport, so we bid a farewell to our hotel and got the BTS back to Mo Chit and got the 29 bus to the airport. The whole journey cost about 100 baht which is a complete bargain considering the taxi would've set us back nearly 3 times that. We checked in with a breeze and met an Australian girl who was travelling and said she would change some of our larger notes when we got to Yangon. As ever poor Ellie was petrified of flying and went through her panickle eggle routine where on the plane she would squeeze my had like a vice, bless her!!!!
