We left from Koh Samet on Monday for the full moon party... a mission in itself, as 8/9 members of our group going had been out the night before, half were regularly throwing up, two had lost their bags/wallets/phones/cameras, one had been spiked and kept falling over and all was general shambles.
8 of us made it to the speedboat though, to travel to the mainland, then bumpy minibus to pattaya u-tapao airport. The flight was only an hour, but we got complimentary drinks and food- bangkok air could teach easyjet a thing or two! Arrived in koh samui in the evening and managed to find a cheap hostel for the 8of us, then out for Indian-so good! None of the hungovers had any energy so we had an early night.
First task next day was to rent one room for us to put our bags in and shower in then we hit the beach for a few hours- beautiful, beautiful beach fringed with palm trees, so lovely! We caught the catamaran over to Koh Pha-Ngan for the party at 5.30pm.
Started off slowly with drinks in a bar, then hit tesco's for cheap alcohol before heading to Haat Rin, where the party is- could hear the music from streets away, loads of poeple wandering round, with buckets of alcohol! Along the beach were loads of diff bars playing diff music and makeshift bars selling mightily alcoholic buckets for around 300B.
We purchased some obligatory fluorescent paint and spent a fun hour sat in the sand decorating each other. Then we hit the dancing and danced on a big stage in front of massive speakers for a while... by 1am, the entire sand of the beach was packed with people, all dancing and drinking and genrally being mad. We alternated breaks and dancing... such a good atmosphere, like afestival... poeple were all having an excellent time, dancing on anything and everything, it was mad!
Started to get tired around 4.30am, so we sat and people watched. Glad to know I can still party all night if I want to, had been alittle worried that I might be too old!
We had a pact not to wash so traveled for 9hours the next day to get back to KohSamet, was SOO tired by the end, I nearly cried... we must have looked like freaks, so sleep-deprived and still covered in fluorescent decorations, but great fun!
Had a much-needed relaxing couple of days on Koh Samet, but so much for 'beach week'- I only had one day actually on the beach!
Left KohSamet on Saturday and back to Bangkok- we got a room in a hostel of Khaosan Road- had forgotten how much I love it there! The atmosphere is incredible, there is so much to see and do (and so many stalls and shops to blow my budget it) and a billion other backpackers, all having fun! So a great night.
Made it back to the hotel for my pickup on Sunday to be taken to the Wildlife Rescue Centre.
