After Chiang Mai, had one day back at the lemon house, then left to go to a Resort for one night... was nice! Pool and massage and loads of nice stuff to do, but alas no bar so we had to resort to playing cards in the evening.
Then Monday morning, left for the trekking in Phu Toei National Park, on the border of Suphanburi and Kanchanaburi. First night on the most gravelly, rocky, horribly slopy ground ever! Then trekked the next day to the real campsite, which was thankfully flatter, but also without running water or electricity. The trekking was cool, not too hard, but a bit challenging, through jungle- all massive trees and ferns and plants and stuff.
So stayed at the camp overnight then Tues morning, we went to some caves-was expecting something tame and big, but they were awesome! Dry and pitch dark and involved loads of ducking down and clambering and stuff- great fun. HUGE spiders, though, bit scary! Then in the afternoon, went to a waterfall, which was over quite a distance, with pools and falls and streamy-bits- we climbed UP the staggered waterfall from the bottom, kindoflike rock climbing, bit dicey in parts, but awesome fun! There are dogs and puppies at the camp, and one puppy came with us, it could barely climb up, at one point it fell about 4m into the water below (but was ok) and needed helping up, it was so plucky, though, so cute! Reward for climbing up the waterfall was a shower in it at the top! At one point it all gushed down from a high rock, wide enough for 4to stand under, side-by-side. It was amazing! Stronger than any power shower I have ever used, and so so refreshing, particularly after a hot sweaty hike!
Thurs, we climbed Angel Mountain, or as the local supposedly call it, 'Death Mountain', quite tiring and certainly a difficult climb, but I didn't think it really merited the death nickname, think our co-ordinater may have been winding us up! But awesome view form the top. Later that eve, saw fires on the hills, apparently wildfires really common, they have no water planes to put them out, so just leave them to burn! It was weird and very impressive to see the mountain we climbed that day a roaring fire!
Friday struck camp and went to a dam for one day, it was a lovely big lake with soft grass to lie on. Water a bit green and swampy but we were so hot we didn't care! Saw some thais up palm trees on the edge of the lake, cutting down fresh coconuts so bought one for 20B, drank the juice then they hacked it in half for us so we could eat the coconut inside, so good! A lovely chilled day of sun and swimming, with a few drinks in the evening, followed by a less-than-comfortabel night on a marble floor swarming with mosquitos.
Sat a night in a hotel in Suphanburi, which was nice, then left sunday for the long drive and boat ride to Koh Samet, where I am this evening. Lush! It's kind of a bit of a seedy resort for middle-aged europeans, but lots of bars and the sea is turquoise and warm and beaches white-sand, so I can't complain!
Tomorrow lunch I leave for Koh Samui and Pha-Ngan for the Full Moon Party- so excited! We are getting a speedboat to the mainland to go to the airport, wahoo! Internet expensive here, so have to go!
