Sunday 6th September
I am feeling ROUGH today. I went out with people from work last night after work, for my first proper night out sicne I've been in Airlie, and it was fun! We went to a few places, danced a bit, smoked etc. Drinks are WAY EXXIE, like $7 each so I supplemented with a couple of bottles of goon in my handbag.. I felt like a naughty teenager again, having a sneaky swig from my bottle in my bag. Anyways, I got drunk and it was fun but got sick! Ended up, as usual, sleeping on the floor near the bathroom in case of a necessary dash, in the lounge, then progressed to the sofa after a couple hours when I felt a bit less queasy then eventually made it into bed at about 6am, when my flatmate Eva woke me up as she passed through the lounge on her way to go out to work, think I gave her a fright, rising up drunkenly from the sofa.
I had to work at 11.30am today; the walk to work is about 10-15minutes with no shade in the hot bright tropical sun, I nearly died! I felt so sick and horrible! Hangovers in the tropics are BAD. I stopped half way and called in sick, but the manager made me feel bad, it's fathers day here, so they expected to be busy, plus all the till systems have gone down, like touch-screen tills that send orders to the kitchen and bar as you enter them in, so writing all orders out by hand and stuff REALLY slows things down. I know that's how people did it just a few years ago, but I suppose they were used to doing it like that, it's very hard to adjust to after relying on a computer system. It was kindof bedlam and from the bosses, unsurprisingly, not a word of thanks or "well done" despite us running around like blue-arsed flies all the time.
The till broke friday night, and can you belive, the till technician "doesn't work weekends" so we had to do a whole weekend without it. Hell! Really makes you appreciate technology.
Anyway, this morning she persuaded me to work anyway but I felt so SO sick. I kept having to run to the loo and leave the bar! I had toast with PB&marmite for brekky, think myabe that was a mistake, it's not a good hangover combination. It sat badly in my stomach and made me feel even sicker. But I made it through work til she let me leave early at 2pm. It just goes to show, I think I'm too old to work on a hangover now, but I can and I did!
Then I had one of the BEST EVER jacket potatoes, sold in Airlie beach fish shop, jacket with butter, cheese, beans, coleslaw, sourcream AND spring onions for just $7.50, the best hangover food! And I dozed on the grass beside the lagoon for an hour and then I felt better, thank god! I hate hangovers!
