Today we gladly left the Elephant hostel. We packed up leaving at what we thought was 10am but was actually 11 since the clocks had changed overnight. We got a taxi to Wake Up! Hostel which is by Central Station at the bottom of George Street. It is like heaven compared to the old place! Its clean, modern, light and spacious! :)
We went up to our rooms to dump some stuff after having breakfast at the cafe next door then had a 2 hour computer session since we haven't had wifi for a while. After this we decided to get the bus to Bondi Beach, however, we hadn't realised the time so by the time we got the 380 from Hyde Park, it only left us about an hour at Bondi. We headed down to the promenade to find a cup of tea and some food there. We chose one right next door to this amazing beachside 'cap horn esq' place...full of young, nicely dressed Sydney socialites, bopping to some amazing tunes and drinking wine.
Quickly we hurried back to the bus stop to have two 380s in a row drive past us full. At this point we started to panic since we didn't have long to get all the way back to the Harbour Bridge for the 'night climb' we booked into yesterday! We thought maybe getting a taxi to Bondi Junction bus station would be a good start but in the end we got the taxi the whole way! Oops!
Under the bridge, we had a quick wander down towards the rocks to look at how big the bridge really was....its huge! We then went to wait inside for our 6.25pm slot for the climb. We got changed into the bridge climb suits and got strapped into the belts that attach you to the rope the whole way up and after having a quick practice on the 'simulator' (a set of steep steps) we headed out onto the main bridge! The sun was just setting and we were very nervous/excited!
We made our way along the flat stretch under the bridge then climbed some really steep stairs (I felt a lot more height sick than I did 7 years ago!) Then we were onto the main archway...looking over at the Opera House and back at the City skyline all lit up at night was beautiful!!
After about 35 minutes we were up at the top where one of our group proposed to his girlfried! So romantic...I was almost in floods!
We had a few photos up there then headed back down the other side staring straight over at the skyline...beautiful.
We got back at about 9pm where we got out of our gear and ordered some photos. We then got a taxi home (via Elephant where Georgie had left (but found) her phone). After this it was just a shower, a bit of diary writing then bed. Very tired!
