Today was a very long, but very long awaited for day!
We got up at about 10am and immediately started getting ready for the Randwick Horse Races! We stressed slightly having to get ready and choose between outfits in the dingy room but all was well in the end and we hopped in a taxi at about midday to take us along. It was so much fun! We bet each way on every race and I made $17 dollars back (which wasn't all bad compared to Georgie's $0!)
We met up with Pat and his friends and sat at the very top balcony of the newly refurbished stand. It was such a good atmosphere...all the ladies being dressed really nicely. I had a steak sandwich and Georgie had some chips but after not much to eat all day we were pretty merry by the time we left for The Clock Bar in Surry Hills with Pat and his friends. Here we had some dinner before me and Georgie headed back to Circular Quay to try and catch some fireworks set up to celebrate International Fleet Week. This was a very failed mission on our part. The whole area was closed off...no access to the Rocks, Opera House or area where the ferries all leave without tickets. We ran back and forth trying to find somewhere to see them from, even trying to get into the Four Seasons Hotel's rooftop bar!
In the end we spotted a whole load of Chinese people breaking through a barrier so we followed suit! We hadn't made much progress however. But we did manage to be there for the 7.40pm fireworks over the harbour...one off the bucketlist...it still brought a tear to the eye of emotional me.
We made a quick dash back to Elephant where we chanegd into outfits more suitable for Pacha later then headed back to Surry Hills to have a couple more with the boys. This turned into a competitive session of pool against the boys and some more locals we met...needless to say me and Georgie lost everytime!
Surry Hills is such a nice place...full of nice bars and restaurants and it was particularly vibrant tonight since it was such a big night what with the fireworks, long weekend and the races.
Anyhow, next stop was Pacha at about half past midnight. Me and Georgie had bought tickets back in Byron Bay so we said goodbye to the boys there and headed in. Wowowow...it was amazing! Caught the end of Duke Dumont who ended playing Falling by HAIM which is my Australia song so it was a great one to end on! At about 1am another DJ came on who was great! Me and Georgie had spots near the front and I was loving life as expected!! After a few hours we stopped for a cheeky Macdonalds then went back to our stinky hostel for the last night. Thank god.
A very expensive but incredible day!!!! Sydney was conquered :)
