Global Adventure '06
Hola,
yep as you know we are still in La Paz, we spent a fantastic few days down in uyuni travelling the salt flats in 4x4 trucks and having a whale of a time taking perspective pictures soon to be seen on this website. It's a really alien landscape and the glare and lack of oxygen takes some getting used to especially if you have something to drink.
Not like me then, i hear you cry, we also spent time in Potosi, where we visited a 400 yr old working silver and zinc mine, and I found my a'level geology coming in handy when it came to recognising some of the minerals. It was hard going and the tunnels some of which were less than 2ft high were extremely tough for me. Crawling was the only option at times. Even less oxygen down here, the average lifespan of the miners is about 35, the dust is thick and it got hotter and hotter the further we went down. Glad to be out of there. Potosi is also unusual in that anyone can buy dynamite on the street and use it to blow things up, as you will see in the next lot of pictures we decided to take out our anger on a foam bear called ruth so named (a very annoying person, who was on the tour before we joined in La Paz). We learnt how to prepare it and attach up the fuse, very simple, crazy though, such a mad place.
What else, apart from having caught a horrible bug and missing out on most of Lake Titicaca, that's all to report for now. Hope everyone is okay. I'm on the mend now, and will be back to my old ways soon enough.
Have uploaded some of claires photos in an album called bcnv or something like that, no hidden meaning. Includes birthday shots and other bits.
lots of love,
Pedro y Clarita
