Day One....today I learnt NOT to leave packing till the last minute, stress definately hit and i replaced sleep with packing! I naively thought i would b able to sleep on the plane! Leaving home i was prob the most scared ever, the whole not knowing what to expect. Dont think Hadley has ever seen me so quiet!! THe flight was fine (apart from not being able to sleep) so jetlag did hit me. We arrived in Mongkok, the working class area of HK and were hit with a total different world as we got off the metro train. It was nite yet this town was bustling with people, all the shops were still open and everything was lit up. We got lost finding our hotel (well, not lost, just lacking in the correct direction) and a kind man stopped at phoned it for us and pointed us in the right direction. That evening we just found somewhere to eat and wondered around absorbing the atmosphere, it really was buzzing. The next day we went to the new territory to see a temple and then to see the wetlands (jetlag had hit me)!! Day three we moved to a youth hostel on HK island which was fab, and went out to see the big light display then back to the hostel to join into a big BBQ party, we thought it rude not to have a beer! Day four was my favourite, the sun was out and energy levels high. We went up the peak tram to see the most beautiful views on the city, followed by a chilled afternoon in HK park. Later on we met a friend of mine from uni for 'a' drink, which turned into an evening of drunkeness!! Day 5 (hangover) we joined the boys from the nite before to go to ocean park to see the animals, little did Hadley and I realise u needed swim stuff and had a lot of fun ripped out of us for that (luckily the shop sold 'ocean world' swim stuff!! Day was finished off by going to see the start of the HK races, which im told makes so much profit it subsidices all the public transport in Hk (hense why the tram costs only 40p to go across the entire Island)!! The final day was a mad rush to go see the giant buddha and at 1pm when we were still on a bus getting there, we were slightly worried with our flight being at 6pm and we had to go all the way back yet. We paced it up the 300 odd staires fully laiden with our backpacks, but was well worth it!! All in all, we fitted in most that we wanted to see and i felt i got a good feel for the place. Food was amazing and very cheap, the city is SO amazingly clean, the people very helpful and by the end i had a satisfying feeling of being safe within this built up city. Next stop......Auckland!!!
