After the trip back to KL, I checked back into the hostel and nestled down for the night.I was shattered and needed to be up early the next day to collect my Visa for India. But again, there was some information that I wasn't given.I was supposed to fly to Kolkata the following day and reached the Visa office for around 10am.I handed over the cash (RM100) and was expecting to receive the Visa form in my passport when I was told 'thank you sah, you're passport will be ready to pick up tomorrow afternoon.'She must have been trying to wind me up, I though, I fly at noon tomorrow.'But tomorrow I fly to India?!''Sorry sah, I may have forgotten to tell you that once the Visa has been granted, it takes another 24 hours to place it into your passport.'
'May have forgotten.'Bloody 'may have forgotten', I'd say there's a fair bloody chance you forgot to tell me, otherwise I wouldn't have rescheduled my flight for tomorrow would I?!I just stared at her, not knowing what to do or say but realising that losing my temper wouldn't help anyone, least of all me.'Is there a problem a sah?''No, no problem at all, tomorrow at noon, I'll see you then.' Was my reply through gritted teeth.I walked outside and laughed, what else was there I could do?Nothing would change the time span I had just been told, so all I cold do was laugh at yet another hold up an rearrange my flight…….yet again. However, this 24hr hold up wouldn't halt my flight for a mere day but 5 days.I was supposed to be flying on Tuesday but due to schedules and certain flights being fully-booked, the next available was Monday. So I took that and trotted back to the guesthouse, tail firmly between legs and wandering how to ill the next few days.
I'd heard some great things about the Cameron Highlands, they weren't far away and supposedly pretty inexpensive. So I made it my task to look into it that evening.I found out the info I needed that evening and was recommended a decent hostel to stay at.Daniel's Lodge had a good write up in 'The Rough Guide, not necessarily the be-all-and-end-all in my decision making (and by no means my Bible for travelling) but if you put fellow travellers recent reviews alongside what 'The Rough Guide' states, you can for a pretty strong idea of what to expect. And so my decision was made, for the next few days I'd be in the highlands.Had a few drinks that night with a lad I met on Tioman (from Bavaria whose name escapes me now), we decided to buy a small bottle of rum and drink it in the bar.The bar's prices were pretty steep but we were sure we could get away with it.That wasn't to be the case. The barman fancied himself as 50 Cent's brother (50 Ringgit!) and liked to play up the bad boy persona. He knew what we were up to but hadn't seen owt to prove it.At the end of the night he came over and flipped, and amongst other things, threatened us with his four mates outside who 'will stab you in the chest until you stop breathing'.We tried not to laugh, fair cop he'd caught us, he knew what we were up to but couldn't prove it.So we played dumb, 'sorry mate but we don't know what you're talking about.'What I did know though was, it was time for bed.
