Today we discovered that the road to Lake was closed due to a massive rock slide, covering the road with 15m of rock / mud. So armed with the gypsy GPS we toured the area around Jasper. We went to Miette hot springs and up Whisters mountain on a gondola to 7500ft. Stunning, lovely day. 22 degrees at the bottom and 11 degrees at the top - we had layers!

Weather - today we had rain! Not uncommon in these parts but up to yet it has been 30 degrees most day - hence the numerous mosquito bites! Well the cloud came in and the storm hit, branches broken, flash flood and a power cut at the hotel as we arrived back at the hotel after a very nice meal in Jasper. On our way to the room an elderly American lady opened the door from her room to see what was going on only for her husband to holler in a Texan - like accent ...

Anthabasca glacier! On our way to Jasper we stopped off for a trip to walk on a glacier - ice thicker than the height of the Eifell Tower. We were taken onto the glacier in specially made transporters up and down hill scarily steep. On the ice it was amazing. The melt water was so cold and so pure- we filled our water bottles and froze our hands collecting it. What a day!

Well - time to move on. From Banff to Jasper a 288km drive! Most of this drive was on the 'Icefields Parkway' - WOW! Every turn was a jaw dropping view, a truly unforgettable drive. We stopped off at Peyto Lake - fantastic place - see picture. The flowers up there were magical, at their best in the warmth of summer. On the next section of our drive we came into Jasper National Park and within minutes we saw our first bear - munching on berries at the road side. ...
