Well today after a good nights sleep i got up early and headed down to a local cafe to purchase a coffee and some muffins...located a shop and purchased my bride "lady periwinkle" a muffin and returned to our B and B.
Our B and B is located in the basement of a flat (British lingo) and has a comfy bed and beautiful bathroom. We are centrally located with some sites being south east of us and some sites north West.
Periwinkle was awaken at the crack of 9 am and off we went south east. Since we have no data on our phones we needed some major planning to accomplish our agenda. So notes in hand off we went.
First stop Westminster abbey. We made it there in less than 1/2 and hour and that includes meandering along the river Thames seeing the sites. The Abbey is under heavy security so seeing the inside wasn't even a consideration. But what a majestic building. Next stop was Big Ben.
AS we turned the corner about to check my notes on how to get there i see the big ole clock right in front of us. Hm not where I expected it to be. Oh well a couple of photos and off across Westminster bridge and there we see the "Coca cola Eye".
Now I like to think i am somewhat open minded but what the Heck. It's a big Ferris wheel you pay 25 pounds and you get to ride in it real slow....i mean real slow.....i mean I'm bored, my A.d.d. has kicked in, now get me off this tourist trap. Good decision we never coughed up the money, good marketing Coca Cola i applaud you as people were lined up 100 deep to get there chance, So Kept wandering along the river and came across people,. Lots of people....of every nationality, size and colour. Not a a lot of English being spoken which really shocked me. I thought a few times " one more of these 'selfie stick holding, peace sign giving personsbump into me, I'm throwing them and their selfie stickie into the thames". Internal thoughts I'm allowed to have them aren't I????
We got to London Bridge and I thought what the heck this doesn't look anything like its picture. No towers, no old brick. I was thinking, not another childhood memory ruined like the castle at Disney world. (The castle in disney world looks nothing like the castle on Wonderful world of disney which I watched every Sunday night growing up). Still not happy with disney about that.
In any case a nice gentlemen pointed out we wanted the "tower bridge" which is further down the river. A quick look and yep that's it. If I were a better history student i would know that.
Off we walk and 10 minutes later Tower bridge is in front of us. Very cool bridge with a neat history. We did the tour and found this to be well worth the $10 pp, seeing the innner workings of it and walking on the plexi glass floors on the upper walkway between towers. Then we finished and made our way home. Just before getting home Dom was hitting the wall. So I negotiated a pedal bike cart guy. He wanted $15. I said no $10 as it was closer and he agreed. Off we went feeling bad I pulled out a two buck tip. We get to the road we wanted but not the address and he pulls over and say here you go....reluctantly I step out give him his 12 pounds and he says no 10 each....dammit 10 block ride costs me 22 pounds.....An uber by the way was 8 pounds but I couldn't figure out how to give him a location to pick us up, Gotta work on that..
Now were back picked up bottle of wine, a beer and Dom's having a nap. Then out for supper and back in for the night. Tomorrow we go North to buckingham palace etc...
By the way Some cyclist yesterday had to stop short at a light, as cross traffic started off a green. He loses it and starts being every Italian character you have ever see when they are mad. He starts Yelling at the driver (who drove off) in italian, while spitting on the ground and then arm chopping while giving him the bird. This scene was repeated twice. I started openly laughing because it's was so frigging animated and cartoonist. So now he rides by us still being animated but now i just added to his problems so he may have been yellling at me also. Who knows but it made my day. I gotta stop mocking jerks cause some day l'm gonna get stabbed...
Oh well take care
