Hi all, I am writing this from Athens as we had limited wifi and it was a travel day yesterday. So here's a recap of yesterday
Went out onto balcony and observed the villagers grouping together and they had pitch forks and axes in hand. I quickly realized they may not be pleased with their new king and queen so "time to flee". Off we packed and we're out of our kingdom by 10:30am.
We reviewed the map and said let's go here. Well, we came no place near "there" but I refuse to say we were lost, I am now saying we were exploring! We found this neat little off the beaten path trail beach and quickly decided it's beer time and lounge sitting time. At the beaches, the restaurants and bars have beach lounge chairs in front of their place so you can sit for free with expectations of buying something. Expectations met, beer in hand life is good
Decided to head back to Perissa beach for late lunch and more comfy chairs so off we went. Enroute Dominique was impressed as I took her by a garbage site and then an open air sewage plant. Yep, she's no longer queen periwinkle, but back to lady periwinkle status.
Came upon a Mexican restaurant with this incredible view so we stopped and ordered a two person appetizer plater, while sitting at cliff's edge. With the help of the waitress, we gathered ourselves and headed to Perissa beach. Our 10 minute ride involved numerous "go that way", "nope not that way" moments, but we got there, grabbed a lounge chair and a beer life, is good.
Being concerned about finding the airport where we were to drop off our rental vehicle, we popped by and suggested their employee drive us to the airport which they were happy to do. Good guy who drove us. He lives in Athens in a H R job with a bank, but since Greece is broke, his taxes have doubled with his wage dropping from 1300 euros to 650. Bread going from .25 euros per loaf to 1 euros. When asked why, he mentioned corruption in banks and old government over the last 10 years. Don't know if this is true or not but interesting
Now at the airport, we got aboard a flight that was so packed it made flying with Sunwing airlines luxurious. In our seat, we had our bags stowed above when an elderly lady comes aboard and the stewardess helps her with her bag. The stewardess removes my bag and tells me to put it under my seat. I point under there where my feet can move inches in either direction, she curtly says "yes please, do it." I put my feet in the aisle and bag where my feet go? Then I put my feet on my bag so basically I am in an upright fetal position. It must of looked ridiculous. She came back after seeing the effect of her poorly thought out direction, and took my bag. All I could think was that she was a dumb ass.
Our flight to Athens was twenty six minutes and we arrived at ten pm, where my plan of using uber failed as I could not articulate where in the airport to pick us up. Damn, I need my daughters, they could figure it out. Okay back to plan b. Take public transport to Sygmata square. We find our bus, figure out our tickets and onto the bus we go, cost for two, twelve euros. Forty five minutes later, we arrive and we get off. Now we need a tram. What the hell is a tram? We see what we would call a street car, ie connected with overhead wire grid, is that a tram? Nope. We see what we woolly call a bus, is that a tram? Nope. We ask and are told ask the bus booth guy down the street. I ask bus booth guy and he mumbles something through his little hole in the glass barely looking up. I say please repeat, so he mumbles again looking up a little more. Okay I must not be hearing right so I put ear to the hole in the glass and he mumbles again. Okay now he needs to know my thoughts so I discreetly called him a name and walked away. Venting felt good. Dominique found a nice lady who walked with us to a tram. Yep a little train. She got on board with us and told us we don't pay at night so off we go. Five stops later she kicks us off at our stop.
Yep graffiti everywhere. Oh boy, what's going to happen now. We walk half a block and get some directions and we find we are in a working area. We are directed down what looks like a darkened ally but is actually a darkened street. Oh boy, this goes against everything I know but we find our place, ring the buzzer and met our host. Up we go to this beautiful two story apartment with lavish balcony looking out onto the Parthenion.
Then off to bed. p>
That's it for the 27th

Lorine Another interesting day it seems. The English language is not universal.
