Day 3: Sun Moon Lake - 9 Aug 2013
We had breakfast at about 9am at the villa which was included in the package. It was nothing particularly fantastic but there was nothing much to complain about too. After breakfast, we bought the ferry and cable car tickets and were all geared up to conquer Sun Moon Lake.
Basically, in Sun Moon Lake, there are three piers - Shuishe pier, Xuanguang pier and lta Thao pier. Where we stay is very near Shuishe pier which made it easy for us to catch the ferry. The ferry first took us to Xuanguang pier where we arrived after about 15 minutes of boat ride. We didn't spend much time there; in fact hardly any. That was because we were greeted by long flight of stairs up a steep slope and my mum's legs weren't in the best condition to climb up the daunting slope. In addition, with a baby in tow and a stroller to carry, it seemed too strenuous. We gave up and decided to move on to the next pier.
The next pier was lta Thao pier. When we arrived, it looked like a decent place to walk around. It was also the place where we took the cable car to the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village.
Within the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, there were many traditional Aboriginal and tribal stuff to look at. However, to go by foot could really kill. We saw the shuttle bus and boarded it. It brought us to a huge amusement park within the village.
What could we do at the amusement park? Not the rides. Haha. We just walked around the amusement park and soaked ourselves in the atmosphere of this fun-loving paradise, accompanied by some shouts and screams from afar when the roller coasters spun at an incredibly dangerous speed or when the people experienced free fall from a considerable height.
We were hungry and just packed lunch from a cafe. My boy felt asleep; if not, I might have brought him to take the carousel ride. Anyway, after lunch, we decided to head back to lta Thao pier via cable car. It was a long day of walking and on our way back, we punctuated with lots of in-between rest; partly to rest our legs, and also because of the need to nurse Benji. Thankfully, red teas were aplenty and I found myself ordering the same beverage throughout my whole time out today.
We had early dinner at about 6pm at the same restaurant where we dined yesterday. Of course, we ordered different dishes and as expected, the price was cheap and the food was good.
We ended our day early. This is because we will all be waking up at 4am to catch the sunrise and we learnt that it will be a two hour walking tour. Well, almost everyone who comes to Sun Moon Lake, boasts about its beautiful sunrise. I am excited to witness it for myself tomorrow.
