Day 15 - Paris - 06.06.2013
We started the day at about 9am plus. After grabbing our breakfast along the way at the patisserie shop near our hotel, we hurriedly made our way for the cruise along River Seine. However, by the time we reached the nearest station where the boarding of the cruise was at, we reckoned that we would miss the timing and thus, we chose to do the sightseeing tour on board the bus that would take us round the city of Paris. Oh, the tickets that we bought were also inclusive of the cruise ride.
The weather was extremely hot today. The traffic was bad as well. Sitting on top the deck of the open-air bus for a prolonged period of time was really at the expense of taking nice photos. We couldn't miss Eiffel Tower and as we seemed not to get enough of it, we took photos with it but as it was the scorching hot noon sun, the effect of the photos weren't that fantastic.
We had an unforgettable lunch. It was at Le Doyen. It was a three-starred Michelin restaurant, located in the middle of a park. The interior was opulent and very classic French. Not to mention that every dish on the menu totally satisfied our appetite. We even befriended one of the staff there whom we would gladly get in touch with in the future. Indeed, it was so memorable and though it was pricey, we had no regrets paying for such a wholesome dining experience.
Next, we took the cruise along River Seine. Around ten minutes into the ride, I got a little bored. Apart from clicking away on my camera, there wasn't anything much I could do. Well, at least, we got to rest our legs and enjoy being tourists for that one-hour ride.
We proceeded to Galeries Lafayette. It was a large shopping mall but we were there for other purpose; it wasn't for our own shopping (as if we haven't had enough from yesterday's shopping). The truth was, Emma was asked by her friend to help him to get some stuff from there. Since we were there and it was almost dinner time, we haphazardly chose a Chinese restaurant at Galeries Lafayette. The dinner wasn't too good but no complaints as we have already had one of the best lunch ever.
Our day ended with me getting to the top of Arc de Triomphe. However, the almost unending spiral staircase that awaited me almost worn me out as I climbed my way up. The reward: Superb view of Paris. As Emma and Benji didn't come along, I quickly took some pictures and left.
It felt a little strange to be separated from Emma and Benji, although it was only for a short period of time. Though I had this desire to get to the top and was excited when I finally reached there, it also conflicted with my emotion of wanting to quickly-get-over-and-done-with because Emma and Benji were waiting for me. As I walked down the stairs of Arc de Triomphe, I was delighted, both at the joy of having fulfilled my wish and also to reunite with Emma and Benji.
When we were back in the room, we packed our stuff, ready to leave Paris to go back to Singapore tomorrow. Our holiday finally will be ending soon. Travelling is really tiring. Although I can't wait to get home, I'd miss the shared experiences and the bonding time with Emma and Benji.
