Our next week was spent along the Mornington Peninsula. We camped at Blairgowrie, two minutes from Sorrento.
Apart from the irritating march flies, Sorrento back beach was terrific. There was a beautiful rock pool that we all enjoyed playing around in.Further along the beach Max overcame his seaweed phobia and dressed up as a sea monster draped in kelp.
We found a little café in the main street of Sorrento that claimed to be the "home of Sorrento's famous vanilla slice", so of course we put that to the test and had to agree.
Our trip to Point Nepean proved interesting. We got to explore the underground tunnels of the old military fort, which the boys particularly enjoyed. We stopped at the spot Harold Holt went missing and also took a look around the old quarantine station. The questions from this visit have been endless.
Later in the week we met up with Mikey, Tans, Brinn and Endo.It was really nice to catch up with family and hang out together for a few days. The boys were finally introduced to their new cousin, Endo. And while they seemed quite intrigued with the size of a new born baby, they were later more interest in digging in the dirt and playing in puddles with Brinn (as we just had a solid night of rain before they arrived).
We had fish and chips in the park at Sorrento on Saturday night. The wind was blowing so Archie finally got to fly his kite.He picked up the technique really quickly and seem quite chuffed with himself being about to fly it.
Before heading home on Monday, Mikey and Tans shouted breakfast for Roy's birthday. To the delight of the boys we followed it up with another delicious vanilla slice!
Tuesday, our first early morning. We were all packed up and waiting in line at Sorrento Ferry Wharf by 7.30am.On our way across Port Phillip Bay to Queenscliff we saw a big pod of dolphins playing around in the ferry wake. What an exciting start to the next leg of our trip - The Great Ocean Road.
