We had a short two hour flight to Bangkok. Our adventures began as soon as we caught a cab. We wanted to be taken to a hostel, but it became evident the cab driver had his own agenda. After giving him the address of where to take us, he drove us to a totally different hotel. After explaining we already had somewhere we wanted to stay he drove us to another hotel of his choice and kept asking how much we wanted to pay....strange. We finally got settled in a hotel (ironically enough we ended up staying at the one the taxi driver picked, the hostel was all full) and decided there was no better way to start our Bangkok experience then by getting massages. Admitidly, we were a bit nervous about what "special endings" may await us, but we decided if we stuck in the same room together we would be fine. We got oil massages for one hour and they only cost $9.00 each. Great place! After massages we were craving some authentic thai food. We found a super great spot and went a bit overboard on the food, but man was it good.
The next day we headed out to check out some temples and head down the river. It was blazing hot out and the streets are always pretty jammed packed, so we did some sightseeing, but didnt stay out for too long. We had a flight to catch at about midnight.
Bangkok was a very unique experience. It is big city with tons of people and it is not kept clean at all. The "escort" services are everywhere you turn. Every massage parlor boasts of its "outside services." It is sad to see the lengths women go to to make money. They dont seem to be respected at all in this culture. There is a large Muslim population in Bangkok. Interesting to see such opposing cultures living in one area.
We head off to Cairo next.....
Check out our past blogs, cuz we wrote a few at once.
