The caretaker of the Country Inn Bed and Breakfast sent us on our way to San Francisco through wine country in Anderson Valley. We thought that we had missed most of the wine country already, but were happy to be wrong.
There were about twenty different wineries and vineyards along the way, and I still had to drive the mountain roads, so we decided to stop at only three different ones along the way for some free wine tastings. We picked some nice wineries where we enjoyed some nice tastings and picked up a couple bottles as well. Ok we may have picked up a couple bottles too many, but I hate just trying somebodies wine and not buying anything.
When we made it through the Valley and back to the freeway, it was only a short ways till we were in San Francisco. The Golden Gate bridge was really neat to see and drive across. We drove around the city for a while before going to find dinner at Pier thirty nine on fisherman's wharf. The seafood was just what we were in the mood for. Something fresh and tasty. Ashleigh ordered the fish and chips platter and I had some fresh seafood such as raw oysters and clams, as well as some shrimp and crab too. It was delicious.
We found a place to stay for the night before touring the city the next day. Unfortunately it was really rainy and cold the next day, but we still went out to see Some sites and walk down Haight st. The hi-light was definitely the rad little thrift shops that were all over the place. We dipped in and out of them to find shelter from the rain.
That night we met up with Kathy's sister Betty in Berkeley. She was so nice. She took us out to a trendy little seafood restaurant that was right around the corner from where she lived. After an amazing dinner, we walked back to the house to have some tea and play some scrabble. We had a great time, but I will try to take it easy on the girls next time we play. I think I'm ready to take on Mimi when we get home.
The next morning, Betty made us a delicious breakfast of oatmeal before we got on the road to head South. We were very fortunate to find that we would be living it up for the next week because Ashleigh had a week in a time share that was about to expire. So we headed to Carlsbad to relax on the beach for a while in a cushy time share. Not really our style of traveling, but we don't turn away blessings when they fall upon us. Plus we were kinda sick of the Ford explorer by now.
Thanks again Betty for taking care of us in Berkeley. We really appreciate it.
