After a good night's sleep and Spain thrashing Italy 4-0, I once again awoke to thunder. Breakfast was good and I took advantage of the fact that I was alone and packed up a sandwich to take with me. Setting off again in the rain was not what I had wanted but i had no other choice. Everything was still wet and was only going to get wetter. I stopped off at a supermarket and bought various sizes of plastic bags. I repacked everything, even putting plastic bags on my feet instead of socks. Then as I started off on my day I passed a bike shop and decided to go in and buy some waterproof covers for my feet. My feet got so cold and wet yesterday that I didn't want the same to happen, I came out the shop with my feet covered and with a smile my face.
So off I went. The plan was to bike to Ulm, 112km away. The day started well, even though it was raining it was a light rain and was bearable unlike yesterday's torrential downpours. The Danube was almost fit to bursting. Seems that this rain is here to stay this week but it doesn't stop anybody from getting out to do stuff. I have to say that when it comes to cold, wet weather that the Spanish are a bunch of pussies. Old people are out biking, others playing volleyball and there are even many who are at the swimming pool with water slides. When it rains in Spain the children don't go out to the playground here they were having great fun in the rain.
Anyway, light rain continued for most of the day, it was grey and I was very much alone. The route on the whole was much easier than it was yesterday with only the odd up hill climb. One was soooooo steep that I didn't think that my I would make it to the top. I struggled to push my bike and trailer uphill all the time hoping that I wouldn't slip and watch everything fly down to the bottom. I stopped in Ehringen and Murderkingen for a break and something to snack on. At 3.30pm I still had 33km to go so my break didn't last long but thanks to a cherry danish and cappuccino I was able to find a second or perhaps even my third wind of the day. 8km from Ulm I somehow got off track and ended going completely in the wrong direction - 6km off track which after having done 100km felt like eternity. Finally I made it into Ulm Nd then went in search of somewhere to stay. For those of you who know me, you know that I don't particularly like to get dirty. So imagine me wet, covered in dirt and sweat with my mud covered bike and trailer in tow. Nobody else seemed to have got as dirty as me, I was filthy so when I turned up at a gasthof which in theory is bike friendly I was met with disgust. So much for it being cyclist friendly, when I walked in 'Helgar' starting tutting profusely and looking at the floor.
Showered and clean I then went in search of somewhere to eat, not having done enough exercise today I stupidly walked and walked in search of Currywurst, could I find it anywhere??? Nope, so I ended up having meatballs and cheese pasta which was just as delicious. So that's that. Need to get some rest as I have to make it to Donauwörth tomorrow. Apparently the route is flat now that I will be moving into Bavaria, we'll see.

Dogbreath How's the rain my dear :-)? Nice and sunny here in Portland. Looks like you are having fun. And hoping you are still enjoying yourself. Keep Going Cracker!
