Day 37 - Coffs Harbour
Rain, rain go away... and stay away for a while!
It's been raining reasonably constantly since just after we arrived in Coffs Harbour on Monday. According to the forecast it should be fining up a bit tomorrow but still a few showers hanging around every now and then it looks like.
Unfortunately the weather has limited the kids activities to mostly indoor things although they did go for a quick, cold, rainy swim this afternoon. Their time has been taken up with playing in the caravan, learning, reading, painting, drawing, and watching occasional DVD's/TV. Considering they have gone from a large 5 bedroom home to a caravan they are coping pretty well with the confined space in the poor weather.
Hopefully the weather will be more conducive to getting out and about this weekend. We may take a drive up into the national park/state forest behind Coffs Harbour and explore around there a little bit. Apparently there is some four-wheel-driving allowed along some of the fire trails. I'm sure the girls will also want to get to the beach and pool and I would like to get out and do some more photography.
Today we went to the Pet Porpoise centre for a little while and the Jessica and Dao got kissed by a dolphin and a seal but Sophie was not quite so keen on getting kissed. Jessica also fed the fish and got splashed by the dolphin which she loved!
In this park we have a drive through site which means you don't need to reverse your caravan in.... you simply drive in one end and when you leave drive out the other end. These sites are typically larger sites designed for large caravans or motor homes that won't fit into the standard sites.
I've observed that you get two types of visitors in these sites. The first is the vehicles that have no alternative and need the space of a large drive-through site such as the motorhomes, large caravans, and big fifth wheelers. The second and more common group is the older couples who arrive in small 18 foot caravans but obviously aren't confident in reversing the caravan so request a drive-through site. Typically the older couples in the mid-large size vans seem to be more confident in their reversing skills.
Currently we have a large 5th wheeler parked beside us which definitely wouldn't fit in any of the other sites!
At the moment we are debating how long to stay here and when to move on to the next location. At this stage I think we will stay here until Friday and then move on to the Nymboida area before heading in to Yamba.
Not much other news so far.... most of my week has been spent sitting in the anexe working.
Until next time......
